ColorMari is a drawing game for several players, played in the browser. Every round has three parts: you think up a prompt, you draw the prompts of the others, and at the end you all look at the pictures together.
What happens in a round
- Write prompts. It starts with a text input: you come up with a creative prompt for your fellow players.
- Draw. In the drawing rounds you turn the prompts of the others into pictures. Every round has a time limit - keep an eye on the clock.
- Watch. At the end everyone looks at the pictures together. The game leader guides you through the game and tells you what happens next.
Good prompts
Do not write anything too difficult or too restrictive. A good prompt leaves the artist some leeway: "an orange squid takes a sunbath" works better than a list of ten details.
The game modes
| Mode | What happens |
|---|---|
| Echo | Every player enters a prompt and the others draw it. Prompts are assigned randomly. |
| Storyteller | The game leader defines a story beforehand, that is, all prompts. The players draw them in a fixed order. |
| Telephone | A sentence is drawn, the drawing described, the description drawn again - until the reveal at the end. |
| Draw & Guess | One player draws a word live, everyone else guesses. |
| Template | Everyone draws the same picture from the template library, each in their own way. At the end you see them all side by side. |
| Custom | The game leader sets up every round themselves. |
In the lobby the game leader picks the mode with a card. The Game mode tab on the right of the lobby explains step by step how the chosen mode goes.
If someone writes nothing, because time ran out or they left, ColorMari fills in a text so the next player has something to draw. The reveal then says "Nothing was written here - ...".
The default settings are enough to begin with: create a game, share the link, start. How that works is described in Create and join a game.
After the game
At the end you can view and download all pictures again. So there is nothing you have to save during the game - ColorMari stores every single stroke. Feel free to share your pictures on social media and tag the artists.

More guides
- The Echo game modeColorMari's classic - everyone writes a sentence, the others draw it, and at the end you see how differently one and the same sentence can turn out.
- The Draw & Guess game modeOne player draws live, everyone else guesses - how a turn goes, how the points come about and what the host can set.
- The Storyteller game modeThe host writes a story, the round draws it - sentence by sentence, and at the end it becomes a picture book.
- The Telephone game modeDraw, describe, draw again - how a chain of pictures and sentences comes about, who sees what when, and how to keep it from breaking.
